Melissa Freeman BBA - General Manager

Melissa was born and raised in the Olds AB area where her family breed and raised cutting horses. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from SAIT as well as a Petroleum Land Administration Diploma from Olds College. Her career background involving General Manager in petroleum Land Management and working with municipalities. She moved north to Wildwood Alberta in 2013 and she has a cow/calf operation with her family. In her spare time Melissa enjoys spending time with her family especially her two girls Jet and Harlow and is active with horses and in the sport of barrel racing. In the future she is looking forward to working with West-Central Forage Associations members, board and staff.

Fito Zamudio Baca BSc.-Forage & Livestock Program Manager

Fito was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. Been the younger of two children and raised in a traditional Mexican ranch operation he has been surrounded by horses, cows and all kinds of animals spending most of his holidays at the Ranch. After graduating from Bachelor of Science with Mayor in Animal Production Systems in 2001 from Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua, he spent three years in Central and North Mexico as Animal Husbandry Technician.

In 2004 he moved to Alberta with his wife Patty and two kids Laly and Fito Jr.  Later they become parents of the youngest daughter Terra. Fito has been involved in a dairy operation by Stettler AB. After he manage a feedlot in Central Alberta, a few years later he moved to a purebred corporate ranch in the Southern Alberta border performing reproduction projects and other ranch duties. On 2011 Fito took a roll as Operations Manager in the East Coast, in P.E.I. in a feed mill/livestock nutrition Company prior to joining West-Central Forage Association WCFA in 2012.

Fito and his family like to spend time together hiking, riding, traveling and fishing. He servevs as a Chair of the Alberta Animal Sciences Network,  Evansburg and Entwistle Chamber of Commerce, Member and Pembina Community Watch, Member.

Jessica Watson BSc Ag - Conservation Agriculture & Extension Program Manager 


Jessica was born and raised on her family’s cow/calf operation in Bezanson, AB (a tiny hamlet east of Grande Prairie), and misses having cows around since the last of the cow herd left the farm in the fall of 2015. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with a major in Animal Science, from the University of Alberta.  In her spare time Jessica enjoys all things horse related, whether it be rodeo or draft horse activities (many a winter was spent feeding cows with a team), camping, running, and has a newly discovered passion for gardening. Jessica is very excited to be a part of the West-Central team and is looking forward to meeting and working with everyone in the future.

Anna Harapchuk-Summer Field Technician 

Anna was raised in the hamlet of Sangudo, AB area; where her family runs a mixed Grain and Commercial Cattle Operation. Gaining a strong interest for Agriculture at a young age, Anna has always had a drive to pursue an education and a career in Agriculture. Currently enrolled at Lakeland College in Vermillion AB, Anna hopes to achieve a Diploma in Crop Technology and then further her education at the University of Saskatchewan focusing on achieving a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Crop Science.  In her spare time Anna enjoys everything related to cattle, whether she’s helping dad manage the cattle operation or she is taking care of her own show cows. Anna also loves being outdoors; whether that is with her cows, in the tractor helping out in the field or hiking and traveling. Anna is thrilled to be working as a summer student at West-Central Forage Association, as well as working with; members, board directors and the staff.

Rachael Nay-Summer Field Technician 

Rachael grew up on her family’s commercial beef farm near Fallis, Alberta with her younger sister. She is currently heading into the last year of her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Alberta and is majoring in Sustainable Agriculture Systems. She is also involved in the University of Alberta’s Agriculture club and enjoys volunteering in her spare time. Rachael has a passion for agriculture and loves being outdoors. When not busy with classes and extracurriculars she likes to come back home to the farm and spend time with the cows, cross-country ski, and hike. Rachael is looking forward to working at West-Central Forage Association as one of their summer students and is excited to meet everyone.
